Soil Microbiology
The amount of life present in healthy soil is an immensely complex food-web of activity ranging from virtually undetectable microorganisms to large earthworms. Although a lot of focus is given to providing the proper amount of nutrients to the crops, very little attention is often given to building the life activity in the soil. |
It has been discovered that healthy soil teaming with life generally contains anywhere from 3%-5% organic matter. However, due to many modern agricultural practices the life in the soil has been starved and levels of organic matter have dropped to less than ½% in many areas. The applied science of Soil Microbiology is slowly emerging as a recognized necessity for continued farming.
A single gram of healthy soil (1 cubic centimeter) may contain over 10,000 distinct Species of organisms broken down into the following 4 major groups:
As many of these microorganisms eat up to 40 times their weight through the soil each day, the biochemical by-products of these organisms unlock a vast amount nutrient rich soil available for plant take up. In addition to unlocking nutrients in the soil, these vast armies of beneficial microorganisms create other secondary metabolites, enzymes, and plant stimulants.
More times than not most of the focus is given to providing plants with the correct level of macro-nutrients while many other essential plant growth metabolites, enzymes, and stimulants are severely lacking. By focusing on building the soil we are able to provide a fully balanced diet to your crops.
While not every product we carry is Certified Organic, everything in our product line works with the natural processes in your soils to improve overall soil health without any negative side effects. We respect the benefits that are inherent in farming soils that have an active healthy biological component and strive to make changes in your soils that will put that vast biological system to work for you.
